CHAPTER ONE
My Arrival
On the cold, rainy winter of October 10th, 1984, my mother was on her way home from our family farm in the village of Namnoon, Thailand. She was in labor with me. My mother is the strongest person I know. Not only was she our sole provider, but she was also a mother of six, and I was the youngest. Sadly, I never had the opportunity to meet my other three siblings, who had passed. She dealt with her pain so well that my siblings and I never knew what she was going through.
When I was only one year old, there was a bad rain storm, and the thunder struck a tree down onto our family home, almost taking my life, but my father happened to save me. Every day, when my mother left for the family farm, she would leave me at home with my father. He didn’t really do much with me except sleep all day, and sometimes, he would take me with him to his friend’s house and stay there for hours, leaving me outside when he was inside.
I was left alone the majority of the time without adult supervision, even though I was supposed to be cared for by my own father, but he couldn’t care less. One day, my mother was heading home, and she heard my cries from afar for a long time. Then she ran home to find her husband sleeping when I was under the bunker in the firepit, getting burned.
